A Brush of Fate – Part 2

The great day had taken quite a different turn. Somehow his shoulder still hurt from that seemingly innocent brush with that stranger earlier. He got home and headed for a shower. As he took off his shirt he noticed his arm was swollen. An absent minded rub and an expression of surprise later, he shrugged his shoulders and proceeded into the shower.

You think he will come to us??? She asked me! Her beautiful imploring eyes looked at me, the tension clear.

He has to… he must… my calculations cannot be wrong… the prophecies can’t be wrong!!!

Prophecies??? This is no Star Wars you know! We are not in a bloody movie! Why didn’t you follow him home!

She was right though! Prophecies was a big word. It was just a bunch of calculations.

If I knew where and when he was going to get the dose, don’t you think my calculations are at least a little trustworthy???

To this she had no answer! To state the obvious truth, I was as worried as she was, perhaps even more. Years of waiting, all my research and studies had pointed to one point in time and space. Just the one point!

The pain in his arm was becoming more and more prominent now. A couple of curses under his breath and a slightly loose fitting shirt later, he stepped out of his house to get some dinner. He had originally planned to cook but a new feeling was over taking him. It had no name. Nothing he had ever felt like before. It was painful, yet pleasing. Saddening and comforting at the same time. A feeling of immense power but with the knowledge that every thing comes at a price.

As he juggled these thoughts in his head he entered our shop.

In the journey of self discovery, one uncovers many truths. Many of these are quite disturbing. Others still, are confusing, and others, are misleading. I had gifted him something that was a combination of all these. The honest truth was, it was still a bit like quantum theories. Every body excepted them and studied them, and yet nobody really understood them.

My mind wandered as I saw the wound in his arm.

Nasty scar that!!! I noted… but it was a bit too late. Well actually, it was all according to plan, but his powers were quite fancy, even for somebody like me who understood them properly.

The moment he saw me, the slight look of pain in his eyes were replaced by that of shock and surprise, and more so, a million questions.

You… you… you…

He ran towards me but I could only offer him a smile. After all, it was all falling perfectly into place. As I slowly slid between the doors to our private chambers on the back he followed me! As soon as he passed through the doors I watched her slowly put him to sleep.

She still made my heart skip she did! Her moves!!! Aah… for the last few times though… before we run away from all of this. As we carried him together to our chambers I could see that look in her eyes. The very look that had swept me away ages ago. Then it seemed destiny. Only later did I find out it was destiny, but of a different kind.

Many questions were to be answered that night, and many answers to be questioned, but all in good time!
